Astrion at SMD 2025: Driving Innovation, Shaping the Future of Missile Defense
Last Friday, Astrion wrapped up an impactful week at the Space and Missile Defense (SMD) Symposium 2025, where our experts, technologies, and career opportunities took center stage against the backdrop of discussions advancing Golden Dome, one of the most ambitious missile defense efforts in U.S. history.
From leading technical presentations to showcasing our latest tools, accepting industry recognition, and connecting with veterans seeking new job opportunities, Astrion’s footprint at SMD amplified our commitment to shaping the future of integrated air and missile defense.
Thought Leadership on Golden Dome
Our subject matter experts brought decades of real-world, multi-domain modeling and simulation expertise to the SMD technical tracks, sharing insights that are critical to Golden Dome’s success:
- Quick Reaction, Open-Source, Real-World Air and Missile Defense Threat Modeling and Simulation Applications for Golden Dome for America: Pete Grossman, Threat & Weapon System Engineering Modeling & Simulation Lead, SEG, an Astrion Company
- Threat Engineering to Support Golden Dome for America: Roger Kylin, Technical Director, SEG, an Astrion Company
Both sessions highlighted the importance of accurate, rapid-response threat modeling to ensure Golden Dome remains adaptive against evolving threats, while delivering the fidelity needed to guide weapon system design, warfighter training, and mission planning.

Extending the Conversation Beyond the Symposium
Our thought leadership extends well beyond the conference floor. Recent blogs from our experts take a deeper dive into Golden Dome’s requirements and opportunities:
- Accelerating Golden Dome with a Smart Buyer Approach – Laying the Foundation: Mike Angle discusses why a Smart Buyer strategy, rooted in Digital Engineering and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), is essential to integrate disparate systems rapidly and effectively.
- Enabling Golden Dome’s Smart Buyer Strategy – What It Will Take: Kevin Brady shares what’s needed to bring that vision to life, from collaboration across the defense ecosystem to leveraging decades of integrated modeling experience.

Showcasing Innovation: PULSEbox Demo
At SMD, attendees experienced PULSEbox firsthand—our powerful, web-based interface for PULSE, Astrion’s LVC, physics-based threat scene generation tool.
PULSE models key threat objects, intercept events, and relevant physics phenomena, providing a common source of truth for radar, infrared, and trajectory data. Through PULSEbox, users can analyze and visualize scenarios, integrate into live, virtual, and constructive simulations, and model systems like Golden Dome with unparalleled realism.
The live demo featured a physical model of a hypersonic glide vehicle (HGV) with movable fins, controlled in real time by PULSE through its DIS plug-in. The demo shows how real-world physics and digital precision converge to support mission-critical analysis.

Recognized for Excellence
During the opening reception, Astrion was honored as a Gold Sponsor of SMD. Our EVP & General Manager of All Domain Defense Larry Floor proudly accepted a recognition on behalf of the company for our long-standing contributions to the missile defense community and our continued commitment to advancing the mission.
